Clifton Park Turf Supplies will supply more detailed information with each delivery of turf so that you are fully aware of what to do whey laying turf. Below are the most important points.

Detailed information is also included in our Lawn Preparation brochure which is available on request.

Lay turf as soon as possible after it has been cut
Lay the turf in a brick pattern – butt the turf together without stretching or overlapping. Lay across a slope and begin at the bottom of a slope. Trim excess turf with a knife or spade
Do not place turf on hot, dry soil – this will set your turf back dramatically and could even kill it
Water the lawn as soon as possible after laying – if laying a large lawn, lay a section, lightly water, roll and then thoroughly soak. Continue with the next section
Water, water, water. Not only should the turf be wet but the soil underneath should be soaked to ensure that the water is saturating the soil beneath the turf. The first 10 days after installation are critical. The turf should not dry out until the roots are established. Turf can quickly die if not watered quickly and adequately
Be conscious of winds – they are very drying especially on extremely hot, sunny days – turf could need watering several times per day if this is the case
Soak the turf each day during establishment – this could take approximately 7 – 10 days in the summer and 3 - 4 weeks in the coldest months. After this period of time, taper off watering so that within a few weeks you are watering according to the recommended rate in our Lawn Maintenance brochure supplied with each turf delivery
During establishment, avoid walking on your lawn – allow the roots to firmly knit and the soil to firm before placing weight on the lawn – weight could cause indentations to occur and new roots to fracture
Do not top dress a newly laid lawn
