Zoysia Matrella
A new and exciting new turf variety is being grown and sold by Clifton Park Turf Supplies.  It is called Zoysia Matrella and it is the only FINE-LEAF TURF VARIETY which will grow in HIGH PERCENTAGES OF SHADE in south-east Queensland.  Its performance in shady situations is amazing as the following photo depicts.  Matrella requires very little mowing - fortnightly in Summer and six weekly through the cooler months. Ring now for details.

Minmow (Zoysia Tenuifolia)
Another exciting turf variety is Minmow which is commonly sold in nurseries as Nomow.  Minmow does not need to be mown.    It will take on a very interesting clumping appearance.  However, Minmow can be mown irregulary if you wish to have a normal lawn-like appearance. Minmow is ideal for nooks, around swimming pools, between pavers or in areas where it is difficult to mow.

Level 5 Water Restrictions
Level 5 water restrictions commenced on 10 April.
New turf can be watered for one hour on the day of establishment with a hand-held hose with a nozzle attached.
The turf can be watered for the next 14 days from 4am to 7am or from 4pm to 7pm with a hand-held hose with a nozzle attached.
Use these 15 days to the fullest to establish the deepest root system.  The turf will become more drought tolerent.
Added hints are to give your turf ample soil (ideally 150 mm) to establish roots in and to use water saving products - it would be more economic to use the products which will last 8 -10 years - some only last weeks or months.

Turf Maintenance
If you have not fertilised your lawn since winter, now is the time to do so to promote  lush and healthy growth.  Remember to fertilise after watering and to water the fertiliser in well.
If weeds are becoming a problem, use a selective weedicide.  Remember to use the correct spray for the lawn variety you have.
If your lawn has not been aerated for quite some time, now is the time to think about it.  Aeration will allow water and fertiliser to penetrate into the root system.
During Summer, lawn grubs could become a problem.  Lawn grubs eat the lawn leaf.  It would be wise to check fortnightly and if any grubs are found, eradicate immediately.
